Having never owned a mill, I don't know a lot about them, and need help evaluating one before I buy. I went and looked at a MillRite/Powermatic today, and the guy that had it seemed like a good guy. The mill is a single phase, and I did not know if it was an R8 taper or not. The guy said he was pretty sure it was and R8.

Collets in photo look like R8. I have a millrite base with Bridgeport head and a Rockwell. Millrite is much more rigid than the Rockwell or clausing. Value has a lot to do with condition. Three years ago I saw a millright like the one you are looking at sell for $1400.00. I thought that a tad high for the condition. Power feed adds to value.

I am on my second Millrite, a '67 MVN. They are good mills, no bells and whistles, and no silly ideas. They are rigid for their size and weight. Those mills were made with at least four different spindles, R8, B&S 9, NMTB30, and others. There were also a lot of other options.

Anyway, I was using the mill the other day and noticed that the lower part of spindle was warm after using the mill for a small job.
