Jun 20, 2011. #6. I have a friend that bought one. He has arthritis and he spent more time trying to make it work than grinding a blade. I don't know. It may be the ticket for your friend. I would think a properly setup angle iron jig would be easier. Just a thought.

I'm a huge fan of cambered irons (#4, #5, #78, etc) for squaring stock. I follow the advice in Paul's Making a Scrub Plane video to grind the edge to shape on a bench grinder (7-1/4″ radius for 2″ iron). Unlike Paul, I don't have 50 years experience, and find it really hard to grind a smooth radius curve with consistent 25 degree bevel angle.
