There doesn't seem to be much out there, but something like a Grizzly G3102 probably fits the bill best out all I seen so far. Looking to spend around $3000 initially and would like to get as solid, accurate mill as I can. Figure I could add extra stuff later (power feed, DRO…maybe even CNC).

The three machines I am currently looking at are the Grizzly G3102, which seems to be fairly well liked, and has been around for a while. Parts are quite limited in availability from Grizzly, though. I also notice that although the table has 6" of Y travel, the spindle centre is only 5 1/2" from the column.

The Grizzly 3102, as you can see, is of the same layout as the Clausing 85xx. Another "American iron" candidate for a small mill is the Rockwell 21-100. It has about the same size table and same footprint as the Clausing, and just slightly heavier.

Vertical milling machine. I came across an impossible to pass deal on a vertical mill. The brand is a "Fusanlong" and seems to be a version of the Grizzly g3102 knee mill, but with a cast iron base. The exterior looks rough, but everything seems to run fine. The table didn't have any holes drilled into it.

Pesonally if you can afford it I would go with the small knee mill G3102, if you cannot afford it go with the G0619 that Paula has. 11-10-2011, 07:04 PM #5 vandis

"A JVM 626 is a mill drill on steroids. It already has an xy table. Its a bit bigger than a standard mill drill, and it has a miniature knee on it- the table will rise and fall about 7" or so. R8, horse and a half, its a step above a Rong Fu mill drill, but still a pretty tiny machine.

The Grizzly G0492 is not so much a lathe-mill combo, but it certainly is a lathe-drill combo. Why? A number of reasons. The column that supports the drill head is about what you'd see on a drill press - it is many times smaller than any milling head column I know of.

The machine just does not do well on 110. Going to 220 solves the problem. BTW: If you do make the change to 220, the wiring diagram is WRONG in the manual.

Second, I haven't found a worthwhile Clausing 8520 or similar. I would appreciate some cold, honest feedback on product "quality" from anyone who own the Grizzly (G3102) or Harbor Freight (40939) 6x26 vertical knee mills. I can get the HF shipped to my door for $1600 while the Grizzly runs $2900. That's a hell of a price delta.

Grizzly sold me parts for a Shop Fox saw, and they made it clear they were surprised the Shop Fox people directed me to Grizzly. People say they're parts of the same company, but the Grizzly parts guy did not expect a call for a Shop Fox part, and he was more than happy to sell it to me. No serial number was required.

Any G3102 or G3103 owners here? I have a 3102 that is about 8 years old. Bought it used with little use. Built a VFD system for it and a 5" column lift. Both awesome additions that were not too hard. Now looking at Power X Feed. Most threads say nothing will bolt right up except the Grizzly kit. (P3102156)

I found Grizzly yesterday and am impressed with the G3103 that is the same as the G3102 but has power feed. If no others come up, I might just select one of those. I can live with the limitations of them, as I've never owned a mill …

There are a lot of threads on here re Grizzly so a good place to start. I am in Canada so Busy Bee (Craftex units, I have a lathe) and King Canada are common. I do not hear much about Grizzly around here and only know one other guy with a home mill. In looking at Grizzly and others, there are many names but the same machine.
