What's Cold Finished Steel Bar Product
A hot rolled bar comes out of the mill with a rough, abrasive, discolored, and dirty surface. This is because the steel at the mill is finished at temperatures upwards of 1600° F to 2200° F, and at these high temperatures an iron scale forms on the surface of the bars.

The rolling mill is equipped with a walking beam furnace with a capacity of 125 tons per hour. Blooms are de-scaled after exiting the furnace, and then proceed through a five stand roughing mill, a six stand intermediate mill, and an eight stand finishing mill. Dimensional control is maintained by optical laser gauges and manual micrometer checks.

carbon-steel 1018 Product Guide from Online Metals
Overview. The most commonly available of the cold-rolled steels, it has a good combination of all of the typical traits of steel - strength, some ductility, and comparative ease of welding and machining. Chemically, it is very similar to A36 Hot Rolled steel, but the cold rolling process creates a better surface finish and better properties.
1018 Mild Steel
This alloy is generally used for "commercial quality" cold rolled steel sheet. It is known for its very good formability and comparatively high strength. It has a very good surface finish that is far superior to hot rolled A36. ASTM A366 (alloy 1008) steel Ultimate Tensile Strength, psi 43,900 - 51,900 Yield Strength, psi 26,100 - 34,800

Description. Cold rolled steel sheeting This material is manufactured by re-rolling and cold reduction of hot rolled steel sheeting. The first step taken in the process is when a hot rolled steel coil is unwound and passed through rolls which flex the plating in such a manner as to break and fragment the mill scale.
